Sports marketing giant AEG, the owner of The O2, has emerged as a front runner to take over the Olympic Stadium after the London Olympic Games in 2012.

The post-2012 future of the stadium has been under constant uncertainty and Premier League club West Ham has frequently expressed desire to move into the ground after the Games.

However the American sports and entertainment company has become the latest to express an interest in continuing the stadium’s legacy as it joins the other 106 parties to have enquired about assuming control of the venue after 2012.

Potential bidders have until 17th May to officially register their interest in the 80,000-seater stadium with a shortlist of about 30 expected to be drawn up, with the final decision to be made in July later this year.

AEG has transformed The O2 into a successful sport and concert venue and could offer a favourable alternative to the Olympic Park Legacy Company.

AEG also owns a number of big stadiums and venues in the United States including the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
