BBC Given Go-ahead To Create Apps

The BBC has finally been given the go-ahead by the BBC Trust to launch smartphone apps – meaning it can extend its reach of its news and sport service.??

The decision means that BBC’s sport coverage can now be made available on smartphones – with Radio 5 Live and live sport coverage to be made available.??

As soon as the announcement was made, the BBC launched a news application for the iPhone and iPad.

The Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA) had been keen that the decision doesn’t go through as papers look to explore the growth area and charge for apps.

The BBC said it intends to launch the application later in the year and will include football and F1 content.
