7.8m UK browsers hit the BBC Sport website on Wednesday after Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome won medals in the men’s cycling time trial, with 10.4m global browsers – breaking the 10m mark for the first time.
The time trial – the top stream of the day on the website – had 567,000 requests alone.
Meanwhile, the top clip of the day had 427,000 requests – after a number of badminton players upset fans with alleged match-fixing antics.
Swimming remains the sport delivering the highest peaks of the day, with Michael Jamieson’s silver medal in the men’s 200m breaststroke final watched by 9.5m on BBC One, with a further 193,000 on the Red Button.
Team GB’s men’s football team beat Uruguay 1-0 to progress to the quarter finals, giving BBC Three its top peak audience of the Olympics so far with 4.3m and a strong audience of 987,000 watching on Red Button Olympics 2 to make a total peak to the football match of 5.3m.
