The British Canoe Union has appointed Generate Sponsorship to develop a commercial sponsorship strategy for the sport in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympics.
The BCU is the governing body for canoe and kayaking which represents more than 450 affiliated canoe clubs and 60,000 members, and has won five medals at the past two Olympic Games.
Covering all forms of canoe and kayaking, from sprint racing through to family activity, it is the UK’s most popular watersport with 1.5m regular participants.
The 2012 London Olympics will provide the opportunity to showcase the sport to a truly global audience and demonstrate partnership benefits for sponsors.
Generate will work alongside the BCU to determine a long term commercial vision for the sport, incorporating the structure, strategy, brand, profile and awareness of canoeing in the UK to ultimately increase its income via sponsors and partnerships.
