Best Of British To Run Olympic Ceremony

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has announced the creative line up that will be producing the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic games.

Kim Gavin has been appointed as artistic director for the closing ceremonies for both the Olympic and Paralympic games.

The Bournemouth-born director has worked on shows and performances such as Take That’s comeback tour, BRIT award performances, the Concert for Diana and the Help the Heroes concert.

Stage and costume designer, Es Devlin, has been appointed as the designer for the Olympic closing ceremony.

Devlin has recently designed Lady Gaga’s ‘Monster Ball’ US tour, as well as tours for Muse, Kanye West, Take That and the Pet Shop Boys, and was awarded TPi Stage Designer of the Year 2010 and 2011.

Finally, record producer David Arnold, the composer and producer of films including several Bond films and Independence Day, will be the music director for the ceremonies.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: ‘what an unrivalled wealth of British creative brilliance. With such a team on board our opening and closing ceremonies will be the envy of the world’.

In addition, awarded winning architect Thomas Heatherwick, will design the Olympic cauldron for the Games after being selected by Danny Boyle.

Last summer British director and Oscar winner Danny Boyle was appointed artistic director for the opening ceremony.
