With the Ashes in full swing, David Collier, chief executive of the ECB, explains how English cricket is looking to cash in on the series’ popularity and why new media platforms are playing an increasingly crucial role in this strategy…

Profile

David took office as Chief Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board in January 2005.

He presented the ECB’s vision for the next four years in the strategic plan – Building Partnerships in May 2005.

David has overseen the changes in corporate governance of the ECB which has led Sports Minister Richard Caborn to declare the governing body ‘fit for purpose’ and an exemplar for NGB governance.

David has gained experience on three International Sports Governing Bodies (the International Cricket Council as well as the Federation of International Hockey (Promotions and Marketing Committee) and the European Hockey Federation Appointments Committee). 

He is also a member of the ECB Board and was appointed an independent director of Great Britain Olympic Hockey in July 2006.

During his career, David has spent time as Deputy General Manager of Essex County Cricket Club, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Chief Executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club delivering a profit in each year of operation.

David also has senior management experience in the IT, Air Transportation and Sports Management Industries in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa with a proven track record in Leadership, Strategic Planning and Operational Delivery.
