The British Olympic Association (BOA) has criticised the level of funding that winter sports receives, labelling the current financial investment as ‘unacceptable’.
Colin Moynihan, BOA chairman, said that winter sports ‘received 1.5% of the funding that summer sports do.’
‘We’ve got to start afresh and work with the summer governing bodies to make sure winter sports athletes and governing bodies are well represented through to Sochi 2014,’ said Moynihan.
His comments come in the wake of the British Ski and Snowboard Federation going into administration before the start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this week.
Snowboard and ski athletes had been left to fund themselves ahead of the Games, which begin on Friday, but the British Olympic Association has set up a new body – British Ski and Snowboarding – to allow athletes to compete in the Games.
