British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) has signed a three-year agreement with Camp America, adding to a flurry of recent partnership deals.

The governing body of higher education sport in the UK will link up with the world’s largest provider of summer camp staff in a deal that will cover BUCS major events including the BUCS Surf Championships, BUCS Short Course Swimming, BUCS Nationals, BUCS Indoor Archery and BUCS Rugby 7s.

Commenting on the new agreement, BUCS chief executive Vince Mayne said: “BUCS are incredibly excited to be partnering with Camp America. We feel there is strong synergy between Camp America and BUCS, both providing students with extracurricular opportunities to develop themselves, increase their employability and ultimately have a lot of fun.

“BUCS believe Camp America provide students all over the country with the fantastic chance to have the summer of a lifetime. We are excited to work with Camp America over the next three years and see the impact of the partnership on students across the UK.”

The deal with Camp America follows a five-year, top-level agreement with student tour operator Outgoing, which has been running trips for university groups for more than 20 years.

The company, formerly a supporting sponsor of BUCS Conference for eleven years, will now have rights to properties including the BUCS Surf Championships, BUCS Nationals, BUCS Big Wednesday, BUCS Conference, BUCS AGM, BUCS Rugby 7s Championships and Trophy Competitions.

Outgoing managing director Ian Boulger commented on the growth and commercial potential of the university sport sector, saying: “Outgoing are delighted to have secured a partnership with BUCS in a five year deal and we are very excited to start work on a number of projects together. Having been involved with BUCS for the past 10 years we have seen the organisation go from strength to strength and we look forward to BUCS growing along with ourselves during our partnership.

“At Outgoing, we feel that sports in Higher Education is such a vital part of the University experience, whether that be at the elite level or participation level. Sport helps to shape lives, build friendships and breaks down barriers as I and my staff can testify being BUCS alumni and we are very proud to carry the relationship forward between our two organisations.”

The BUCS portfolio covers more than 50 sports with a busy league programme comprising over 5,800 teams and over 120 championships events every year.
