By extending its support of the Great Run for five more years, Bupa has now maintained one of the longest sporting sponsorships in the UK.

One of the country’s leading healthcare companies, Bupa renewed its sponsorship through 2013, which brings its duration of support to 21 years.

“We are proud to continue to support the Great Run series and have watched the events become a huge success,” John Cullinan, brand communications manager at Bupa, said.  “Running is a great way to stay fit and sport has a very positive role to play in society by encouraging everyone to take an interest in exercise and fitness, which as we all know plays a key role in health and wellbeing.”

The Great Run is comprised of multiple races throughout the year and typically has about 165,000 people participating in any one of the events. The Great North Run became the world’s largest half-marathon last weekend, with one million entries.

The sponsorship will also continue a tradition of raising significant funds for charities, reaching more than million pounds over the last two years.

Next on the docket for this year is the Great South Run on 26 October.
