With one year to go to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the British Olympic Association has announced that Calgary has been chosen as the location for Team GB’s Preparation Camp.
Athletes from all sports that Team GB is likely to qualify in will be preparing for the Olympic Winter Games in the Canadian city.
The decision follows a review of potential locations by the BOA and a comprehensive consultation process with the winter sport Team Leaders.
The decision to host the Team GB Preparation Camp in Calgary was based on: quality and proximity of sports venues facilities for all winter Olympic sport training; international airport with hourly flights to Vancouver; flight time to Vancouver as one hour and as a domestic flight; and infrastructure to handle all Team GB requirements.
Calgary has reportedly be tried and proven by Team GB as a sufficient training area and was the location of the Preparation Camp prior to the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
