Cate Blanchett, Damon Albarn and artist David Hockney will head the line-up of artists featured in the first group of commissions and special projects for the London 2012 Olympic Festival.??
All the artists will be involved in a 12-week arts festival running alongside the 2012 Olympics.??
Leading artists from all over the world will come together for the festival to celebrate London 2012 through dance, music, theatre, the visual arts, film and digital innovation – in a bid to leave a lasting legacy for the arts in the UK.??
Actor Jude Law, painter Lucian Freud and Turner prize-winning artist Rachel Whiteread will also feature in the festival.??
Over 1,000 events, some ticketed and some free, will all be listed on a special website which will go live from Summer 2011 and the aim is for over three million people to attend and be part of London 2012 Festival.??
The opening event of the London 2012 Festival will be a Peace One Day production in Londonderry, produced by Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley and Peace One Day ambassador Jude Law.
??The BBC Proms and the Edinburgh Festivals will also work in tandem with the London 2012 festivities.??
