Channel 4 has confirmed it will continue its coverage of para-sports throughout 2014 by broadcasting a series of key events this year, including the European athletics and swimming para-championships this summer, as well as highlights of National Paralympic Day and live coverage of the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London – taking place in Horse Guards Parade and The Mall on 20th July.

Channel 4 will then show TV and online highlights of the IPC Swimming European Championships from Eindhoven at the start of August and live coverage, on its More4 channel, of the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea at the end of that month.

The broadcaster is currently midway through a contract with the International Paralympic Committee to broadcast the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Paralympics, which it won following its record coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games – the first time the IPC has awarded the broadcast rights to two Games at once.

Jamie Aitchison, Channel 4’s commissioning editor for sport, said in a statement: ‘Our coverage has a proven positive impact on changing perceptions towards disability and disability sport whilst providing para-sport, its athletes and our new disabled talent with unprecedented new platforms.’

‘We look forward to welcoming them back to Channel 4 in the coming months and in the run up to the excitement of Rio.’
