Bid cities Tokyo and Chicago for the 2016 Olympic Games have been stepping up their efforts to impress with high-profile endorsements and technologically advanced websites.

The Tokyo 2016 Bid Committee has launched a new animated website, www.tokyo2016.or.jp/en, to help visitors learn more about its many attractions that would be available to tourists if it were to be awarded host city for the Games.

Promoting its theme of the proposed Tokyo 2016 Games – Uniting Our Worlds – the website focuses on different experiences people from around the world have had in Tokyo.

A special section of the site sees Tokyo-based international chefs appear on video to introduce the culinary specialties that are unique to the city.

On the other side of the globe, Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games has reportedly surprised an audience of senior sports officials, including International Olympic Committee members, when it showed a short video clip endorsing the bid by US president-elect Barack Obama, who is currently a senator of Illinois and a resident of the city.

Both Chicago and Tokyo join other candidate cities Rio de Janeiro and Madrid in facing the final selection 2 October of next year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
