Business magazine The Economist has launched a new poster campaign questioning whether or not the London 2012 Olympic Games is a waste of money.
The poster ads are part of the magazines ‘Where do you stand?’ initiative, aimed to challenge non-readers misconceptions of the Economist brand by showcasing its content to a wider audience.
The two-week poster campaign will scrutinise the London Olympics under the headline ‘Hosting the Olympics is a waste of money’.
The project was created by Abbot Media Vickers BBDO, with media planning and buying handled by PHD.
The posters will appear in London underground stations until 28th March.
The original ‘Where do you stand?’ initiative launched in June last year, featuring for and against arguments on provocative topics such as legalizing drugs, voting rights for prisoners, trading of human organs, and now the worth of the Olympic Games debt.
According to the magazine the Games is expected to cost around £9bn, twice the original figure.
Registration for tickets was made available this week, while the countdown clock was also unveiled – although it stopped after less than 24 hours.
