As expected, EDF Energy has been confirmed as the second top-tier domestic
sponsor for the London 2012 Olympics and will put a message of environmental
concern at the forefront of its sponsorship activation.

Following on from the signing of Lloyds TSB to fill the banking category, EDF
is the second brand to sign up with 2012 organising committee LOCOG as a tier
one sponsor also becoming the official sustainability partner of London 2012.

No price has been attached to the EDF deal although analysts believe it to be
slightly less than the reputed £70m paid by Lloyds TSB for its tier one
sponsorship.

LOCOG had originally stated that it was seeking £100m for each of the top
sponsorship slots.

EDF has long been a supporter of the Olympic movement through its ongoing
partnership with the French Olympic Committee.  It’s also a patron of the
International Paralympic Committee.

The partnership is effective immediately, giving EDF exclusive category
marketing rights in the utility services sector for London 2012, including use
of the new London 2012 logo. It also allows exclusive access and category
marketing rights to Team GB and Paralympic GB for Beijing 2008 and Vancouver
2010.

In the United Kingdom, EDF Energy will be using the inspiration of the 2012
Olympic Games to encourage people to improve their carbon footprints through its
Green Lane campaign.

The first step is EDF Energy’s 2012 Carbon Challenge, a consumer pledge to
reduce their home energy carbon footprint by 15% by 2012.

With the signing of EDF, LOCOG has now filled two of its stated aim of
attracting seven tier one sponsors with the categories of automotive,
telecommunications, oil and petroleum, sportswear, and airline still to be
filled.
