Ahead of the start of the X Games season in Aspen, Colorado this week, ESPN has announced GoPro, Red Bull, Jeep and Ford as the first-ever global sponsors of the series, which will double in size this year.
Camera manufacturer GoPro and Red Bull will be present across all six events of the action sports franchise, while Jeep and Ford will share the automotive category with Jeep backing the winter events and Ford participating in the summer.
America’s Navy has also become an official X Games partner and will have a presence in Aspen and Los Angeles as well as within the Global X Games broadcasts in the US.
In addition to the global sponsors, X Games Aspen has secured several sponsors who will participate on a local level.
ESPN said in a statement: ‘Robust sponsor activations accompany global sponsor commitments including but not limited to: rights to all official X Games marks and logos, entitlements, and prominent positions across all X Games cultural elements. Global partners will have a presence across all events, including generous on course and event signage as well as tickets and VIP hospitality experiences on site.
‘Additionally, global sponsors will be incorporated into comprehensive X Games media plans that will run across ESPN’s TV, digital, print and radio entities.’
Barcelona, Foz do Iguaçu and Munich were announced early last year as the cities to lead the effort to globalise the X Games by staging new events.
The announcement marked the end of a year-long bidding process that attracted initial interest from more than 40 entities from 21 countries. The three new cities join Aspen, Colorado; Los Angeles, California and Tignes, France on the X Games calendar.
