Eurosport Draws 106m Olympic Viewers

Eurosport has revealed that the broadcaster increased its average TV audience by 80% during the Olympic Games and confirmed London 2012 as the first truly digital Games by breaking records on web and mobile. 

From 28th July to 12th August, a total of 106 million different TV viewers watched the London 2012 Olympic Games on Eurosport. 

The top three programmes were all athletics night sessions – on 5th, 8th and 9th Aug – which drew over 13m different viewers each.

Eurosport’s global average audience during the Games (09:00 – 25:00 CET) was up 80% compared to its yearly audience.

Online, Eurosport.com attracted nearly 5.6m daily visitors during London 2012, 4.4m on the web and 1.2m on mobile, 36% higher than its yearly average daily global audience (4.1m). 

With 6.5m fans on 3rd August, Eurosport.com achieved its best ever digital performance, while the English and Spanish markets broke their individual historical records on the web during the Games.

The London 2012 Olympic Games were the main driver of online traffic with 72% of the total audience accessing dedicated expert content. Athletics, swimming and wennis were the most followed sports on Eurosport.com

Eurosport’s broadcast of Olympic sports continues beyond London 2012. The channel covers sporting events from 21 of the 26 official summer Olympic federations, for a total of over 2000 hours each year. In 2013 fifteen World Championships will be on air across winter and summer Olympic disciplines.

Earlier this week, BBC Sport revealed the London 2012 Olympic Games delivered the biggest national television event since current measuring systems began, with a reported 51.9m (90% of the UK population) watching at least 15 minutes of coverage.
