24 brand new BBC Olympic channels will be launched across satellite and cable for the London 2012 Games, enabling millions of homes the opportunity to watch any Olympic event available at the time.

The two dozen channels will be dedicated to the BBC’s live coverage of the Games, and will be broadcast across BSkyB, as well as Virgin Media’s cable platform.

Alongside coverage on the existing BBC channels, over 10 million Sky homes will be able to enjoy 2,500 hours’ worth of live BBC coverage throughout the Games, while further ‘Red Button’ coverage will be available via Virgin Media’s digital cable platform.

Previously, the BBC had only planned to broadcast the streams online, and it will be the first time viewers will have the opportunity to follow one particular sport throughout the day.

The services will be in addition to coverage on BBC One and BBC Three, which will air all of the key moments from the Olympics, as well as other platforms including Radio 5 live.

Meanwhile, Freeview users will have access to two additional channels available through the BBC Red Button, providing up to four channels at peak times.
