Sport Industry Group will stage the last in its series of webinars aimed at supporting entrants to the BT Sport Industry Awards this Thursday at 2pm GMT.
The third edition will focus on helping the industry identify the most appropriate categories for their work – and provide some expert advice on completing submissions as the deadline for entries approaches on 29th November.
More than 50 organisations from across the sport industry have so far participated in the “How to” series, which is a new initiative aimed at supporting the sector in showcasing its work.
Alex Coulson, managing director of Sport Industry Group, will lead Thursday’s session, offering up best-practice tips from his five years overseeing the process. He will also take real-time questions from those signed up to take part.
He said: “We’ve been celebrating the very best of the sector for eighteen years now, but each year the categories and criteria change so even the most experienced entrant can benefit from some advice.”
“There are some common mistakes made with the entries forms and supporting material which can be easily avoided. Also, some people may not be fully aware of all the categories they are eligible to enter or where their work might fit best.”
Some of the new and revised categories for 2019 include:
Social and Sustainable Development Award: this category combines elements from last year’s community programme and sustainability categories meaning it is open to any organisation with a programme or campaign driving environmental, community or broader social benefits through sport while demonstrating shared value.
Media Content Award: this is a new category which aims to recognise the way an organisation has covered a professional sport event. It could be linear broadcast, an OTT service from a rights holder or broadcaster, fan-generated content, print media or more and it isn’t necessary for the organisation to have the ability to show the live rights.
Sport Organisation of the Year: whether it’s a club, league, stadium or a governing body this category is all about recognising the performance of a sport organisation and how it has benefitted the community that it serves. A previous incarnation of this category has been the governing body of the year category and the best governing bodies are still expected to be recognised alongside other sport organisations.
Brand of the Year: corporate sponsors, sports brands or any brand using sport as a marketing platform will all be in contention for this category. This category has changed from previous years and is now purely focussed on brands as sponsors, endemic brands and those using sport as a marketing platform. Rights holders and other previous entrants should look at entering Sport Organisation of the Year.
