Virgin Media will provide free Wifi on the London Underground during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with access available at 80 stations in time for this summer.

Wifi coverage will not be available between stations, but will be available on platforms and throughout stations.

Following the Games, the service will offer free Transport for London information but passengers using the service to access other services will be charged on a pay-as-you-go basis, while Virgin customers will use the service through their regular subscriptions.

Throughout this summer’s Games, though, the service will be available for free to all passengers.

‘This latest innovation is great news for Tube customers, who now have access to emails, web and social media underground for the first time,’ said Gareth Powell, London Underground’s director of strategy and service development, to the BBC. ‘It’s also delivered at no cost to fare payers and taxpayers.’
