Olympics sponsor General Electric is positioned to make the most of its investment in infrastructure development around London 2012, after reportedly making $700 million from contracts in Beijing.

For the 2008 Olympics, GE produced over 400 infrastructure projects, including wind farms, water purification plants, security systems at airports and on subways, and floodlights at sports venues.

Looking to have the same impact in the UK, the American company has announced plans to build environmentally aware projects with aims to make a cleaner, more energy-efficient London.

GE plans to use 2012 to spread awareness of its presence here in energy and technology infrastructure.

Discussions are now taking place to address energy projects for London with Olympics partners EDF Energy and BP.
