Greenwood Launches Webackyou Venture

Rugby World Cup winner Will Greenwood has launched his new venture, WeBackYou – a unique money raising scheme which allows the general public to sponsor up and coming sport stars in exchange for rewards.

The scheme is run through the venture’s official website, www.WeBackYou.com, and creates a new relationship between fans and athletes, turning everyone into potential investors, and giving any fan the chance to travel with the stars of the future on their journey to the top.

Commented Greenwood: ‘We wanted to shake things up a bit, to be honest. Why should big companies or top stars have the monopoly on talent? Why can’t the rest of us follow our sporting dreams, or back someone we believe in?

‘Instead of asking for multi-million dollar contracts, we are breaking it down into smaller amounts. That way it is more accessible and realistic for everyone involved. And it’s more likely to happen. Which is the best part.’

WeBackYou’s first project is golfer Adam Gee. Gee is bidding to play on the professional circuit and needs £10,000 to compete for the season and cover costs.

Gee’s listing on the WeBackYou website sees him invite people to back him in exchange for rewards.

The rewards range from £10 for blogs, video chats and updates of what is happening on the tour, to as much as £5,000 for a round of golf with Gee, Will Greenwood and Jamie Redknapp.

‘What I like most is the fact that you get access to the talent at an early stage,’ explains Will. ‘You back them, and they give you unprecedented access in return.

‘Instead of watching it unfold on the TV screen, you are living it with the talent every step of the way.

‘Imagine what it would be like to say that you had backed Andy Murray from the start. Or that you played tennis with him, or had a chat the night before his first Wimbledon win.

‘That’s what WeBackYou wants to create, a new relationship between the talent and their fans.’
