Sir Chris is a brand ambassador for Gillette’s ‘Great Start’ campaign, part of a global programme to support Gillette’s London 2012 Olympic Games activation.
The ‘Great Starts’ campaign aims to celebrate coaches in the UK and inspire the next generation by encouraging people to get into in coaching.
Gillette ambassador Sir Chris Hoy said: ‘I’m delighted to be involved in a campaign that celebrates the fantastic work coaches do and inspires the next generation. I have met so many inspiring young people here today who will benefit as I did from a good coach, that’s why campaign’s like Gillette’s are so important in getting the next generation off to a great start.
Speaking about the crucial role coaches have played in his life Hoy added: ‘It was my Dad that filled that role when I first got into BMX’ing. He taught me to keep my chin up when times were tough and he was always there to celebrate with me when I was winning.’
To recognise the importance of coaching for the future of sport in the UK, Gillette has partnered with ‘sports coach UK’ to fund coaching qualifications by awarding ‘Great Start’ grants in 2012. The grants are available to both existing and new coaches who are starting out, with applications made via www.facebook.com/GilletteUK.
Gillette’s ‘Great Start’ campaign in the UK is part of Procter & Gamble’s global commitment to raise $25 million for Youth Sport in the next decade by helping establish and sustain youth sport programmes around the world, as part of its 10-year partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Gillette Brand Manager, Jared Regan, commented: ‘Gillette has a rich heritage in sport and we appreciate the crucial role that both amateur and professional coaches play in the success of sport in the UK across all ages.’
‘Coaching is the sporting embodiment of a great start and we’re absolutely delighted to be able to sponsor these grants and help inspire the next generation by encouraging people to get into coaching. Young people up and down the country have been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games and the performances of Team GB’s greatest athletes like Sir Chris Hoy. We’re so honoured to have him as an ambassador for our ‘Great Start’ campaign and to have his support as we encourage people to give something back through coaching.’
