Nearly 34,000 hopefuls have signed up to become London Ambassadors for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The original target was to secure 25,000 registrations but the programme has attracted unprecedented demand to become one of the 8,000 ambassadors.

The 8,000 will be located at one of 35 information booths across London’s transport hubs, Olympic venues, City Live Sites and tourist hot spots -offering help to visitors.

Successful recruits will be trained and equipped with the skills needed to assist and inform visitors to London, answering questions about the capital and helping guide them to the outdoor screens broadcasting the Games.

All those who have registered now have until 28th February 2011 to complete the online application form at the London Ambassadors website and shortlisted applicants will be interviewed between April and July 2011.

The Ambassadors will work closely alongside a further 70,000 people who will volunteer their skills in a scheme run by the London Organising Committee of 2012.
