The sport business industry is in mourning after it was announced that Bill Sinrich, the former chief executive officer of sport production and sales house TWI – now IMG Media, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last Friday.

The well-respected Sinrich was a member of the IMG corporate board and the four-strong Office of the Chairman which made key strategic and tactical decisions for the agency.

A journalist with NBC News for five years from 1982, he joined TWI in February 1987, in London.

Under his leadership and through his relationships forged with sports governing bodies honed by nearly 20 years at the helm, TWI became the world’s largest independent sports producer and distributor, with a string of prestigious clients including the International Olympic Committee, Wimbledon, the R&A, and the Rugby World Cup.

Sinrich left IMG in February of last year citing differences over the future direction of TWI.

Sinrich was being treated for depression at the time of his death.

There will be a memorial service in due course. Sinrich’s widow, Nicola Cornwell, has asked that no flowers be sent but that any donations go to Sport Relief.
