The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed a new deal with Foursquare, which will see the location-based social networking service create an Olympic ‘badge’ that can be unlocked at past and present Olympic sites.
The service will be integrated into the social media set-up for London 2012, enabling users to check into Olympic venues.
Users who check into two or more separate Olympic sites will also have a chance to win a trip to this year’s Games.
IOC head of social media Alex Huot said: ‘Our integration with Foursquare and the ability to leave location-based tips from the athletes is one more way to serve highly engaged fans of the Olympic Games and to integrate social media directly into the Olympic fan experience.’
‘We wanted to do something fun and thank our fans who make an effort to stay fit by offering them a chance to win a trip to the Olympics.’
