Mirroring a similar restructure at Sky, ITV director of sport Mark Sharman is to
add responsibility for the broadcaster’s news output to his existing role.
The addition of news to Sharman’s portfolio comes after the retirement of the
broadcaster’s existing news chief Clive Jones last month.
As ITV director of news and sport, Sharman will now oversee all ITV’s news
and regional programming, reporting directly in to Simon Shaps, the
broadcaster’s director of television.
In combining news and sport under Sharman’s authority, ITV is following in
the footsteps of Sky who similarly moved news under the remit of head of sport
Vic Wakeling a couple of months ago.
