The London 2012 Olympic Games and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games have signed an agreement to maximise the benefits of hosting major sporting events.
The agreement, known as a Memorandum of Understanding, will set out how both Organising Committees will jointly benefit from the second time an Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games has been hosted within two years of each other in the same country, since Canada hosted the 1976 Summer Olympics and the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
As part of the agreement LOCOG will, where practicable, offer its commercial partners the opportunity to be introduced to Glasgow 2014 for the purposes of facilitating potential involvement which could help Glasgow 2014 reach its commercial targets.
One of the key benefits that both committees are looking to address is volunteers, with London 2012 agreeing to share information on many aspects of their volunteer programme and strategy.
Glasgow also looks to benefit from London 2012 as LOCOG will look to involve Glasgow 2014 personnel in the Olympic observer programmes run by the IOC to gain firsthand experience – London 2012 would benefit from having additional, experienced staff to work on the London Games.
Glasgow 2014 will also enter in discussions with LOCOG about the purchase of fit-for-Games equipment after the Olympics finish.
