Doug Arnot, one of the key figures in Chicago’s failed bid to host the 2016 Olympics, has appointed as director of Games operations at London 2012 organising committee, LOCOG.

Arnot will be responsible for the overall planning, co-ordination and delivery of London 2012’s Games Time Operations.

This will include integrating venues, sport, village, security, games services and broadcast functions. He will report directly into LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton.

Arnot started his career as a lawyer before becoming the President and Founder of the National Congress of State Games in the US.

He took up his first senior appointment in the early nineties as the Executive Vice President for the Fifteenth FIFA World Cup USA, from there he went on to become the Managing Director of Venues and Operations for the Atlanta Games.

In 1999 he joined the Salt Lake City Games senior team as Managing Director for Event Operations, directing and planning the operations for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

After this he went on to become CEO for USA Rugby during a period of restructuring the sport within the USA and then since 2006 he has been Senior Vice President of the Chicago 2016 bid team.

Arnot starts his role at LOCOG with immediate effect.
