LOCOG, the organising committee for the London 2012 Olympics, has launched its official online store at www.london2012.com/shop.
The website launches initially with approximately 250 lines of product including clothing, collectables and pin badges.
By summer 2010 there will be 500 lines of product and it will eventually grow to sell thousands of London 2012, TeamGB and ParalympicsGB products in the coming months and years.
Retail of official Games related merchandise plays a vital role in funding of the Games in 2012, contributing to LOCOG’s £2bn budget.
LOCOG has signed more than 30 licensees to produce London 2012, TeamGB and ParalympicsGB products. These include the likes of the Royal Mail, Royal Mint, Hornby, Letts Filofax and Links of London.
Corgi, a Hornby brand, has revealed its latest official merchandise to be sold on the site, including model London taxis whereby each model carries a pictogram of a particular sport appearing in the Games along with ‘did you know’ facts on the featured sport.
The online shop marks the first stage of LOCOG’s retail plans which will eventually see London 2012 products sold at dedicated London 2012 shops and via other retail outlets.
The online shop has been developed and built by London 2012 licensee eCommera.
