The government has announced that £27m is set to be cut from the 2012 London Olympic budget.

The decision comes as part of the £6.2bn of savings in public spending announced by the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition.

UK Sport, Sport England and the new UK anti-dopng agency have also been hit by the savings plan and will all have to make budget cuts of 3%.

The previous Labour government had insisted that the £9.325bn budget for the Games was ring-fenced.

The cutback directly affects the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which is the body that is building the venues that are set to host the 2012 Games.

However, Jeremy Hunt, the secretary of state for culture, media and sport, has told the bodies that the savings should not interrupt the Olympic programme as the main savings should come from cutting administration costs and restrictions on recruitment and pay.
