Olympic organisers have announced that the billing of successful applicants for London 2012 tickets will be delayed by one week.

Money was originally set to be taken out of accounts from Tuesday, with applicants told to make sure they had enough money in their accounts from 10th May to 10th June.

However, London 2012 organisers have revealed that fans will not be billed until at least Monday 16th May, and will spend the extra week carrying out ballots for oversubscribed events.

Nearly 2m people applied for 20m tickets during the online application period – with only 6.6m tickets available.

London 2012 Olympic Games tickets ranged from £20 to £2,012 – the top ticket for the opening ceremony.

Hopeful applicants have already been warned that they will not be told when exactly the money will be collected, and they will not be informed which tickets they have been allocated until the money has been collected.

The latest date to be informed of the news is 24th June 2011.

If ticket costs can not be covered when the money is withdrawn applicants risk losing their tickets all together.

Ballots will be taking place to decide who will receive tickets to the oversubscribed events, with the opening and closing ceremonies massively oversubscribed, as well as athletics finals, swimming nights, track cycling and some of the cheaper tickets.

In an attempt to land the tickets they want, some fans have applied for several tickets, over several sessions – which could led to some people claiming more tickets then they wanted.

Fans who land more tickets then they bargained for will have the chance to sell them on for the same price on an official ticket exchange.

Internet auction site eBay has already announced that it will not allow the resale of Olympic tickets on its website.
