Thousands of bus workers have voted to go on strike during the Olympic Games in a row over bonuses, threatening transport plans for London 2012.

Members of the Unite union voted for industrial action by nine-to-one, unless they receive £500 each, from Transport for London, for the 20,000 bus workers it represents working during the Games.

Unite said that it would announce potential strike dates early this week, with bus companies given a final opportunity to consider the ballot result.

At least 800,000 extra passengers are predicted to use London’s buses during the Olympics.
