Mayor of London Boris Johnson has expressed his concerns over certain elements of the design for the new £500 Olympic Stadium in Stratford for the 2012 Games.
Speaking during an international climate change summit in South Korea, Boris Johnson stated that he remained ‘unconvinced’ on the designs, particularly regarding the roof and that there were discussions being held on the issue.
He said: ‘I have yet to see a very convincing explanation of what happens if it rains very heavily on the night of the opening ceremony.’
Work on the 80,000-seater stadium began in May 2008, three months ahead of schedule. A visit by the International Olympic Committee last month said preparations for 2012 were on time and on budget.
The site will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Games, as well as the athletics events. Once the Olympics are over, it will be restructured into a 25,000-seater community venue.
