Mayor of London Boris Johnson is set to take over as chairman of the London Legacy Development Corporation, replacing Daniel Moylan who will head up a new aviation policy unit set up by Johnson in an attempt to try and attract more investment in the city.

The LLDC is responsible for overseeing developments to the Olympic Park ensuring their long-term development and sustainability now that the Games have finished.

Boris Johnson replaces Daniel Moylan who was only appointed as chairman back in May.

Mr. Johnson said: ‘Securing the future of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy and building on the regeneration of East London is a matter of huge importance to me personally.’

‘The chairmanship of the LLDC will enable me to do just that, building on what has already been achieved.’

The LLCD took over from the Olympic Park Legacy Company back in January following a suggestion from Johnson.

The long-term aim of the park, which will be known as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is for it to become a multi-use area for business, visitors and residents.

However, top of the agenda for the London Mayor will be securing the long-term future of the Olympic Stadium.

There are four bidders in the running for securing the future of the stadium: Premier League club West Ham United, League One side Leyton Orient, Intelligent Transport Services in association with Formula One, and UCFB College of Football Business.

The park is set to re-open in stages beginning 27th July, 2013 – exactly 12 months after the official start of the London Olympic Games.

This will include the opening of the Multi-use Arena formally known as the Copper Box, which is set to host a variety of sports as well as other events.
