McDonald’s and the International Olympic Committee are close to agreeing a new, eight-year sponsorship contract and the deal could be sealed this month, according to the IOC’s marketing chief.
IOC officials and McDonald’s, whose contract as an Olympic sponsor runs out after London 2012, will reportedly meet in Austria during the Youth Olympics to finalise details.
The Youth Olympics begins in Innsbruck on Friday.
IOC marketing commission chairman Gerhard Heiberg told Reuters: ‘The situation is positive and I don’t see any obstacle. We are very close.’
‘We will meet in Innsbruck and finalise everything. Hopefully we will sign the contract there.’
The fast food chain has been an official Olympic sponsor since 1976.
