Mediarex, the Malta-based sports and fintech specialist behind Socios.com, has announced the appointment of Magnus Linder as head of partnerships & business development.

As part of his new role, Linder will lead on the development of the blockchain-based Socios platform, designed as a fan engagement and monetisation solution for football clubs.

The project was launched to considerable fanfare, with Mediarex committing $20 million to the development of the initiative, which uses the chilliZ fintech platform and $CHZ token popular with investors.

Swede Linder will also be responsible for building the team that will handle the onboarding of key partners, developing the necessary infrastructure within the clubs, and managing the day-to-day relationships.

Linder joins Mediarex from Nordic igaming firm Betsson Group, where he was head of brand media and sponsorship, responsible for key sponsorship deals including with Manchester City, AC Milan, SHL and CHL.

His career in sports marketing spans agency, brand and rightsholder roles, including a period as head of sales and marketing with the Swedish Football League.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Mediarex, commented on the appointment, saying:  “Magnus is a fantastic addition to the team and will help Socios.com achieve our goals of taking fan engagement and fan monetisation within the sports and esports space to the next level.

Linder added: “I’m delighted to be joining Mediarex, and am excited for the opportunity to work on such an innovative and exciting venture, and at a time when blockchain technology is exploding and transforming the global sports industry. “

Socios.com pitches itself as the first white label application of the chiliZ platform, which offers the world’s first scalable, tokenised voting platform where fans can buy, trade and execute voting or ‘crowd managers’ rights in their favorite sport and esports teams.

The concept is based on the democratic management systems of fan-owned football clubs such as LaLiga’s FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Earlier this summer, Mediarex announced the appointment of PR agency PrettyGreen to support its communications related to the new product.
