Making its way from London, a mile of Singapore’s streets is now set to be transformed into an exciting and action-packed sporting arena on the evening of 24th October, after the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay unveiled the first course outside of London for its inaugural edition in Singapore.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has been staged in London for the past seven years, continually attracting the world’s biggest commercial firms and is now expanding internationally for the first time with a new race in Singapore and an exciting new route.

The unique route will take runners around the picturesque Promontory @ Marina Bay, offering competitors a street side view of the Lion City as they battle to be first back to the line to hand the baton on to their teammates.

Starting with a straight-line sprint towards the first hairpin, the route kicks off along Marina Boulevard before taking competitors back around the Promontory. From there they will twist and turn along the streets, through buildings, down stairs and along the Bay before pushing for the finishing line and handing over the all-important baton to a waiting teammate.

The event is the local debut of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, which attracts more than 100 teams to the streets of London every year and has seen more than 1,500 competitors already sign up to tackle the Singapore edition.

Teams from a host of banks, law firms, IT companies, insurance brokers and pharmaceutical companies have signed up to compete in the event, with past London champions Barclays and Macquarie set to take their place on the start line alongside the likes of ANZ, Atos, Citi, Clifford Chance, Great Eastern, Goldman Sachs, Google, Norden Shipping, Maersk, Standard Chartered, UBS and many more.

Each team is made up of ten runners, all of whom will run the stunning one-mile (1.6km) course in a bid to clock the fastest collective time. The event will culminate in a celebratory post-race party, where the winning team will be awarded a S$10,000 cheque to be donated to charity. In addition to the winning team’s charity cheque, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is partnering with SportCares, the philanthropic arm of the Singapore Sports Council, to fund a running programme for disadvantaged youths and young adults. Through this programme, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay aims not only to unearth some of Singapore’s new sporting talent, but also engage, educate and inspire a new generation through running.

Singapore marks the first leg of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay series’ international expansion, which is sponsored by Bloomberg, the global business and financial information and news leader. A handful of team places are still available at www.squaremilerelay.com
