The global recession appears not to have affected investment in sponsorship with new deals in 2009 rising 15% year-on-year according to figures from the latest IFM Sports Marketing Surveys publication – The World Sponsorship Monitor Annual Review.

The figures also show that the sports sector still dominates the sponsorship market with 88% of all deals in both number and value.

The results also show that the number of reported sponsorship deals across the board has held up well in 2009.

Whilst new deals have risen 15% withdrawals have remained at 8%.

Fewer deals over $10 million reflected the economic climate, but nevertheless announcements such as the Sochi 2014 bid to host the Olympic Winter Games and Barclays Premier League boosted confidence.
