Plans for £11.5m improvements to the public transport structure for the London 2012 Olympics have been published by the Olympic Delivery Authority.

The proposals look to encourage 385,000 spectators to travel between London 2012 venues by using public transport which it is hoped will be regular and quick.

The scheme hopes to leave a network of key routes between 2012 Olympic venues including cycling paths stretching from Finsbury Park in north London to Victoria Park in the east.

Organisers want every spectator to get to the venues by using public transport, walking or cycling.

Paths are also to be improved from Epping Forest and the Wanstead Flats to Stratford in the east.

It is estimated that 10,000 spectators will walk to the Olympic Park and river zone venues on peak days, along with 4,400 who will cycle.

Under the scheme anyone trying to get to the events under their own power are promised better road surfaces with wider paths.

Better signage and demarcation for walkers and cyclists along shared routes is also promised.

The plans come two weeks before the Department of Transport announced phase two of the expansion of the East London Line.

The expansion will play a key role in the organisation of the 2012 Olympics and will constitute a new orbital rail network around London.
