Payments for London 2012 Olympic Games tickets will be taken from today – and people are being reminded to make sure they have enough money in their accounts to cover any costs.

A spokesperson for London 2012 warned: ‘People should make sure they have sufficient funds available from this date’.

Around 1.8m people made more than 20m applications for the 6.6m tickets available to the public, during the six-week process.

Successful bidders will find out what tickets they will receive by 24th June, but it is likely to mean that for many bidders, the money leaving their account will be the first indication that they have been successful.

Refunds will not be available for any unwanted tickets, but they can be resold through London 2012’s official resale platform that will launch early next year.

Internet auction side eBay has already announced that it will not allow Olympic tickets to be sold on the site.

Olympic ticket billing has been delayed by a week to allow further ballots to take place for the oversubscribed events.

Money was originally set to be taken out of accounts from last Tuesday, with applicants told to make sure they had enough money in their accounts from 10th May to 10th June – but was later delayed.

Ticket allocation is decided through random ballots, so some unlucky applicants might end up without any, while others may be allocated all the tickets they applied for.
