With three years to go to the opening ceremony of London 2012, the Press Association has announced that it is to significantly increase its coverage of Olympic and Paralympic sports with a dedicated correspondent assigned to each discipline.
The team of correspondents, which will increase from 10 to 30, will be overseen by Olympics Editor, Scott Dougal, who has been in place since May 2008.
Olympics Correspondent, Helen William, completes the team; she has been in post for four years and covers the wider remit of the games including legacy, culture, transport and budgets.
Journalists will supply hundreds of stories a month across all sports ranging from athletics and badminton to swimming and sailing. They will report on the successes and failures of the big name Olympians, the progress of British sport’s rising stars and breaking news from competitions around the world.
As part of the Press Association’s commitment to the Games, journalists will also be writing about the impact of hosting the Olympics on the country, filing stories on the infrastructure, the legacy, youth and education and country-wide involvement.
To make full use of the extra coverage a separate Olympics news service is being planned giving customers access to a wealth of multimedia news, pictures and video that can be used on any platform.
