London’s Paralympic Games is set to generate record broadcast revenue of £10m, after the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) unveiling a host of new deals.

The new deals are in addition of those already in place with Channel 4 and China’s largest national broadcasting network CCTV, which will offer an unprecedented level of exposure in the UK and worldwide.

Wednesday’s deals were headlined with an agreement with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which serves 85 national media organisations in 56 countries across Europe and beyond.

The broadcast revenue for the London 2012 Paralympic Games will be greater than for any previous Games.

Elsewhere, Japan’s sole public broadcaster NHK will showcase the Paralympics to the national population of over 125 million, while Brazil’s Globo TV will televise the Games on its Sportv cable channel.

Australia’s leading public broadcaster ABC will continue its award-winning coverage from the Beijing Games for London 2012, while pay-television channel Sky Italia has secured Italy’s rights, and Korean public-service broadcaster KBS and Thailand Pool TV have also agreed deals.

LOCOG chairman, Sebastian Coe, said: ‘As the world’s second biggest multi-sport event, all eyes will be focussed on the Paralympic Games in London in 2012.’

‘Beyond how the commercial value of this package has raised the bar financially for the Paralympic movement, the fantastic broadcast coverage we have agreed will help us take advantage of this opportunity to inspire disabled people of all ages to take up sport and be a catalyst for continued change in public attitudes towards disability.’
