Some of Great Britain’s top medal hopefuls for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are calling on Brits to thank their mums for their hard work ahead of this weekend’s Mother’s Day, as part of P&G’s ‘Thank you, Mum’ campaign.

Jessica Ennis, Sir Chris Hoy and Paula Radcliffe are among P&G’s brands’ athlete ambassadors who have recorded special messages of thanks to their mums for everything they have done to help them get where they are today. A few of which, can be seen at Sport Industry TV.

P&G is calling on the nation to tell their mums how much they appreciate them and be in with a chance of winning their mum the gift of a lifetime – family tickets to selected events at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The winning tickets include the 100m Athletics Final, the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony at both the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

With 50 sets of four tickets to selected events at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games up for grabs, people can enter by going to www.youtube.com/pg and uploading a video, photo or text message telling their mum what they’d like to thank her for this Mother’s Day.

The ‘Thank you, Mum’ campaign has been launched following research by P&G that shows over a quarter of UK mums (27%) are thanked less than once a month for what they do as a mother.

Picking up the clothes after the family (71%), tidying the bathroom ready for the next person (65%) and acting as an alarm clock (49%) are the little things mums do every day that apparently go unnoticed or unvalued.

Jessica Ennis, athlete and Olay ambassador message is: ‘I remember my mum always being there supporting me on those wet and cold days. Thank you Mum.’

Sir Chris Hoy, cyclist and Gillette ambassador said: ‘My mum always says that, whenever I win a race, it’s never down to my hard work or my training, but it’s down to her cooking and her support. And who knows, she’s probably right. Thank you, Mum.’

Keri-anne Payne, swimmer and Max Factor and Oral-B ambassador told her mum: ‘I’d like to thank my mum for all of the hot dinners she put on the table for me. Thank you Mum.’

Victoria Pendleton, cyclist and Pantene ambassador added: ‘One of the best things about my mum is that she would always tell me you can only do your best and we love you no matter what. I think it was really important because even when the competition was very stressful and I was worried about my performance, she would remind me of that. Thank you Mum.’

The ‘Thank You, Mum’ competition closes on Mother’s Day, Sunday 18th March 2012.
