Procter & Gamble (P&G) has partnered with the British Paralympic Association (BPA) ahead of the 2014 Sochi winter Games, with the global consumer goods company set to serve as the BPA’s ‘official nearest and dearest supporter’, a role it also held during London 2012.
The Nearest and Dearest programme provides information and support for close relatives of each Paralympics GB team member in the build-up to and during the Games.
Penny Briscoe, the chef de mission for Paralympics GB at Sochi 2014, said of the deal: ‘Athletes are some of the first people to acknowledge the crucial role that their family and friends play in their development and ultimately in their success.’
‘We know and understand how important it is to athletes and family alike that the people close to them can be present when the athlete is preparing and competing at a Games, and that’s why we at the BPA feel so strongly that the nearest and dearest programme is crucial to get right.’
The Sochi 2014 Torch is currently making its way through the Torch Relay ahead of the Games early next year, which has already seen it travel up to space (pictured) and dive underwater.
