The post-Olympics vision for the London 2012 site has been revealed, which includes a detailed plan for long-term use of all facilities following the Games.

Led by Mayor Boris Johnson, Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell and communities secretary Hazel Blears, the plans for the East London construction include space for a sports academy, a school, an elite sports training centre and housing.

The secondary school will be based in the main stadium, which will be reduced from 80,000 seats to 25,000.

Additionally the plans include using the site to host world-class athletics championships and leisure events. Other venues, including the Aquatics Centre and Velodrome, will be kept for community and elite sporting use.

The plans also allow for new areas to play football, hockey, tennis and mountain biking.

The Mayor claimed that this plan to continue using the site for community and elite sport, as well as housing facilities, will fulfill the goal to gain both an economic and sporting legacy for deprived parts of east London.

The £9.3bn building project will now go before public consultation for six weeks.
