Police in London will set up specialist teams to investigate counterfeit tickets and other fraud attempts at the 2012 Olympics.
Detective chief superintendent Nigel Mawer says London 2012 represents a ‘phenomenally good opportunity’ for criminals.
The British Government has provided extra funding to help tackle the problem and the teams will work on computer security with vendors and sponsors.
The computer systems at the Olympics will be protected by the police’s supplier, Atos Origin.
Tickets for the London Games go on sale next year but police are already monitoring e-tickets and internet domain names they suspect have been registered to sell fake tickets.
The Serious Organised Crime Agency is also putting together a dedicated team to deal with crime surrounding the Olympics.
