Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis has been announced as a new brand ambassador for Santander, joining the likes of Rory McIlroy as an ambassador for the UK division of the financial services company, as well as British Formula One driver Jenson Button, who is associated with Santander through the company’s commercial agreement with the McLaren team.

Ana Botin, Santander UK’s chief executive, said: ‘Santander UK’s corporate partnerships with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Rory McIlroy have been extremely successful.’

‘I am delighted to welcome Jessica to our extraordinary Santander team, to build on the success of our existing partnerships and to form a new alliance for us, in a different sport.’

Santander has been steadily building its brand in the UK since its acquisition of Abbey at the start of 2010.

Ennis added: ‘Santander is a traditional bank, as well as one that focuses on giving value to customers through very competitive products. I’m proud to say I am one of those customers, and am really excited to be working with Santander and appearing in the new advertising campaign.’

Santander UK’s recent has featured F1 racing diver Lewis Hamilton alongside Button, however the Briton’s departure from the McLaren team means he is no longer associated with the bank.

The “Santander London Grand Prix 2012” – featuring then teammates Hamilton and Button – has been recognised at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2013, after it made the final shortlist for Best Use of PR, sponsored by Action Images.
