Due to his outstanding efforts at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, GB Cycling Performance Director David Brailsford was presented with the Marsh Leadership in Sport Award at the Sport Industry Awards 2009 ceremony at Battersea Evolution.
Brailsford was presented his award by Alastair Campbell, the former Press Secretary to the British Prime Minister in front of a packed house of 1,300 industry executives and sport celebrities.
Brailsford’s award came in recognition of his dedication and efforts that led to the British Cycling team’s domination of the sport’s medal table in Beijing.
Brailsford has been widely acknowledged to be the lynchpin in the team’s success of 14 medals including eight gold – a British record medal tally in a single sport.
Brailsford succeeded UK Sport and Youth Sport Trust chair Sue Campbell as the second recipient of the Marsh Leadership in Sport Award.
