Six National Olympic Committees have applied to host the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014, with the deadline for submissions being extended to 1st April.

China, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, Poland and Turkey have submitted applications according to the International Olympic Committee.

While many other NOCs requested extra time from the IOC to designate a specific city as the potential host, the six nations that have officially applied have announced their cities as: Jakarta 2014 (Indonesia), Nanjing 2014 (China) and Poznan 2014 (Poland) have already been confirmed.

The deadline for the other applying Committees to announce their host cities has been extended to 1st April, 2009, however, the date of the election by the IOC members and of the announcement of the host city will remain the same.

The deadline for candidate cities to submit their files is 1st of September. The IOC Executive Board will then draw up list of finalist cities in December. The election and announcement of the Host City of the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games will be made in February at the 122nd IOC Session in Vancouver, Canada.
